- | ![]() Twinning with PalestineThe Britain - Palestine Twinning Network - "promoting twinning and friendship links" Activities for the network in 2010 include * Women's visit March * visits to Palestine April and October * CONFERENCE in November Visit Palestine - April 2010 An excellent report on the recent visit (November 2009) to Palestine organised by the Twinning network - it really gives you a good idea was is involved (word doc) One of the Twinning Group's objectives is to get people to visit Palestine. Once you have seen the Wall, the refugee camps and above all lived with and spoken to the Palestinians themselves, you know the truth about the situation. Visiting with a group is much safer and easier. Its fair to say its quite a traumatic experience, as well as being life changing. We organise regular visits to places of interest (both religious and political). Our previous tours have been a great success. In general we organise a three or four day education tour, participation in a conference or workshop, and the opportunity to visit your twinned community. If you have already been on a tour and are keen to spend time with your community, it is possible for a small charge to join the tour on certain days. “This was one of the best things I have done in my life” “The visit was extremely well organised” “I felt safe and well looked-after” “I loved the people, and I was shocked to find out what life is really like for them” (visitors on recent visits we have organised*) From an article in Al Quds, a Palestinian newspaper concerning the April 2009 visit. "Dar Assadaqa, Camden Abu Dis organised an annual visit for a groups of members of British twinning groups from different places in the West Bank [sic!] and Dar Assadaqa organised a trip for 8 days to visit all the towns of the West Bank . During it they visited some places that had twinning groups and activities, among them the village of Kobar where their twinning friends are raising the money to build a mosque. And also Jenin camp, the city of Nablus and in Nablus the Yaffa Centre in Balata Camp and in Aida Camp the Lajee Centre. They visited the Health Relief and Mandela Societies in Ramallah. During the visit there was the third annual twinning conference in the theatre of the Al Quds University in Abu Dis. The visitors joined members of twinning organisations from fifteen places in the West Bank. The Chair of the Camden Abu Dis Society, Salah Ayyad, gave a welcome speech and thanked the visitors for their efforts and support in raising the issue of Palestine. During the conference, different groups described what they had been doing in their twinning. One of the important inputs was by a representative of the friendship between Oxford and Amari Camp who called on the twinning groups in Britain to increase the number of visitors to Palestine so people could see the realities of the life that Palestinians are living in. And at the end of the conference, a twinning committee was established to prepare future activities and coordinate between them and the twinning partners to have an active role in the different international coalitions against the Israeli occupation and its practices." The next tour will be in April 2010. Download (word doc); About the Twinning network tours / Booking form 2010 tour Costs - budget £300 - £500 for a flight.
