- | ![]() Twinning with PalestineThe Britain - Palestine Twinning Network - "promoting twinning and friendship links" Activities for the network in 2010 include * Women's visit March * visits to Palestine April and October * CONFERENCE in November Twinning Info. / Visit reports - Hackney to Beit Surik On this page; Report back Nov. '05 visit / Report back Apr. '06 visit / Visit April 2007 Hackney is twinned at grassroots level with Beit Surik, North West of Jerusalem. We aim to foster friendship and understanding of the plight of the people of Beit Surik, under Israeli occupation and highlight the humanitarian issues affecting its people. Beit Surik is almost isolated by the wall, fences and a settler only road (www.imemc.org/article/52004). Although Jerusalem is visible from the village, most villagers cannot nor ever have visited it. A Twinning committee now also exists in Beit Surik. Projects supported include the Women's Committee (embroidered cushions etc.) and the Graduates book scheme. We are also now trying to raise money for chairs for local women's centre. Hackney is officially twinned with Haifa in Israel. Additionally there is a group at Homerton Hospital which is twinned with Haifa's Rambam Hospital in Israel. These groups are aggressively pro Israel. Delegation visit November 2005 Hackney visited the village of Beit Surik, north west of Jerusalem in November 2005. Read our report here.
